Information on the current state of science and technology in connection with the structural maintenance of roads, particularly against the background of PPP projects, was the aim of the seminar “Bauliche Erhaltung/ Structural Maintenance”, which was jointly organized by the Ruhr University Bochum and OAT – green tech solutions GmbH.
Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schmidt presented the latest developments in the field of texture measurements in Bochum.

The working group “Betonbauweisen/ Concrete construction methods” of the Forschungsgesellschaft für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen e.V. (Road and Transportation Research Associatio) invited for knowledge exchange and expert discussion.in Halle a.d. Saale.

The possibilities and opportunities of horizontal grinding of concrete surfaces, especially with regard to acoustic and skid resistance improvements, were the topics of the presentation by
Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schmidt.

As project manager, he also presented the results of the research project “Horizontales Schleifen von Betonoberflächen/ Horizontal grinding of concrete pavement/FE No. 08.0261/2018/OGB”.

In May 2023, the “3rd European Pavement Friction Workshop” took place at the test site of the Université Gustave Eiffel in Bouguenais near Nantes, France.

IWS Messtechnik GmbH successfully participated in the comparative measurements with two texture depth measuring devices ELAtextur of the new version 3.0.

Top-class experts from science, administration and road construction discussed current issues in concrete road technology and presented their forward-looking solutions in Dresden from January 19-20, 2023.

IWS Messtechnik GmbH introduced die new version 3.0 of the texture measurement device ELAtextur to the participants.

Together with RWTH Aachen University, QuellTech GmbH and LEHMANN + PARTNER GmbH, the joint project “OPTOgrip – a fast optical measuring system for the assessment of the skid resistance of road surfaces” involved the development of a new type of high-resolution laser sensor and its optimization for use in non-contact, high-speed skid resistance measurement.

The project was funded by the Federal Highway Research Institute as part of the research program „Innovationsprogramm Straße“ of the Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen (German Federal Highway Research Institute).

The comparison between conventional, in-contact SKM skid resistance measurementa and non-contact OPTOgrip measurements was carried out using the IWS’s own SKM measurement vehicle, which was equipped with the high-resolution laser OPTOgrip sensor beside the tyre-based SKM measuring mechanism and other supplementary components for validating the measurement system and evaluating the measurement data.

Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schmidt was able to present the successful evaluation of the measurement results obtained to the members of the FGSV committees “AA 4.3” and “AK 4.3.3” at a special meeting on the topic of “Non-contact skid resistance” on July 7, 2022 in the premises of the DMAN in Celle Castle.

Participants from Poland and Germany from the fields of science, administration and the construction industry discussed current topics and new developments in road construction in Wisła, Poland.

In his presentation, Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schmidt presented the different methods used in Germany to determine skid resistance.

New requirements within the scope of research and development projects made it necessary to set up a new SKM measuring vehicle. The measuring vehicle, designed for internal testing and comparative measurements as well as expert investigations, is equipped with an SKM measuring mechanism and a texture measuring system consisting of three laser sensors for determining the texture depth in the right and left-hand rolling lane as well as in the middle of the lane.

The measuring vehicle successfully performed its first measurement project in the south of France in December 2019.

In June 2019, representatives from science, administration and road construction once again met under the patronage of the Województwo śląskie for an exchange of knowledge between Poland and Germany.

Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schmidt was able to present the latest developments in the field of skid resistance measurements. A particular focus here was on the latest research results on non-contact grip measurements from the “OPTOgrip” project.

In May 2019, the “2nd European Pavement Friction Workshop” took place at the proving ground of the IFSTTAR (Institut Francais des Sciences et Technologies des Transports, de l’Amenagement et des Reseaux) in Bouguenais near Nantes, France. The combination of expert conference and comparative measurements once again impressed the international participants.

IWS Messtechnik GmbH took part in the comparative measurements with a skid resistance measuring vehicle and two ELAtextur macrotexture measuring devices.

On April 24th and 25th, the Gütegemeinschaft Griffigkeitsmessungen e.V. (Quality Association for Skid Resistance Measurements) carried out a comparative test of various high-speed skid resistance measurement systems in the Hanover area.

IWS Messtechnik GmbH took part with a measuring vehicle equipped with a measuring mechanism in accordance with CEN TS 15901-6.

International experts from all over the world discussed current developments and innovative solutions relating to concrete road construction in Berlin from June 19th to 22nd, 2018. As part of the technical excursion on the subject of “Grinding” on a section of the highway A10, IWS Messtechnik GmbH presented its measurement technology in the areas of “texture” and “grip” on site.

The great interest of the participants and the interesting discussions despite the rain and wind will remain in our memories for a long time.

The 6th Silesian Road Construction Forum in Katowice offered the opportunity for an exchange of experience and specialist discussions between representatives of the Polish and German administration, science and construction industry.

The lectures and product presentations in the accompanying trade exhibition presented new products and processes. In his lecture,

Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Schmidt focussed in his lecture on the question of the influence of construction methods and aggregates on the skid resistance of the road surface.

From May 29th to June 2nd, 2017, the “1st European Pavement Friction Workshop” took place on the proving ground of the IFSTTAR (Institut Francais des Sciences et Technologies des Transports, de l’Amenagement et des Reseaux) in Bouguenais near Nantes/France.

The exchange of experience between participants from North America and Europe was the focus of the lectures during the two-day conference. T

The presentation of various measuring systems gave a comprehensive overview of the current measuring technology in the areas of “grip” and “texture”. At the same time, extensive comparative measurements were carried out involving more than 25 measuring systems.

IWS Messtechnik GmbH took part in the comparative measurements with an SKM measuring vehicle and two ELAtextur macrotexture measuring devices.
